Candice Marsh's heteropaternal twins - the in-game explanation :)

This discussion originally appeared on a message board, when I needed help with a buggy "non-pregnancy".  The sim was Candice Marsh and the results were... well.. unexpected, to say the least :)

Help with stuck non-pregnancy
Post by blackcat on May 7, 2010, 9:32pm

Anyone know how to solve this one??

I've got a house I play only occasionally, a group of room mates I treat as townies - only making them 'playable' when one builds a relationship with one of my playable sims. So I hadn't played the house in a long time.

I loaded it today and it immediately zoomed in on a female sim, who did the 'hello-help me!' waving thing, and popped into 2nd trimester pregnancy clothes. I knew she's woo-hoo'd with at least one of her room-mates, so this was an interesting development. I went to the acr pregnancy scanner to see who the dad was - but no window came up. It was as if she wasn't pregnant.

Tried with various other hacks (insim, inteen, etc) and they all acted like there was no pregnancy. Changed her into everyday clothes. Her middle still protruded and she had the pregnant walk.

I moved her to another lot. Same stuff happened, except now she has a 3rd trimester bump. I used insim to make her pregnant to a random sim, then accelerated the pregnancy to 3rd trimester, then terminated it. She went back to 3rd trimester appearance but no pregnancy (according to the hacks etc). I reset her using testingcheatsenabled. No change. I deleted her and exited the lot. She was at the mailbox when I went back in, but still with a 3rd trimester appearance.

I'm running out of ideas!!! Short of actually making her pregnant and then having her give birth, which I may have to do... but I suspect that she'll just revert to 3rd trimester body shape like she did when I terminated the hacked pregnancy. Any other ideas??

Have you checked her body flags in SimPe? I'd check that first. The pregnancy flags are on one of the middle tabs of the character description, right where the fitness and ghost tags are.

You could always have her deliver the baby (or a new baby, whatever you end up having to do), and then exit without saving if it doesn't work.

Hmmm, weird, I've never had this one happen before.

Thanks for the SimPe advice, Laura... I don't know how to use SimPe very well so I didn't know you could do stuff like this. But lets say I've had, well, mixed results...

I removed the pregnancy flag thing as suggested. Re-loaded. She didn't look pregnant any more... for about 10 seconds! Then she yells for attention and out comes the 2nd trimester belly again. Only this time, she was really pregnant - as in, things like ACR recognised the pregnancy.

I accelerated it to see what would happen, and in due course she had a girl, and got her normal body shape back. The funny thing is, on her family tree it had no father! So I now have single mother who really doesn't know who the baby's father is...  (I found from her memories that she'd actually woo hoo'd with two of the former roommates, so it'll be interesting to see if the baby actually resembles either of them when its older...)

I played the house for a while... and when the baby was about a sim-day old, she suddenly yelled again, and, wtf, out comes the 2nd trimester belly! She hadn't so much as flirted with anyone in the 24 hours since she had the first baby. I accelerated again, and now she has fatherless daughter #2.

It's after midnight here now but I had to play the house another day, just out of this awful fascination with the idea that she might go on popping one out every 24 hours for however long I play her.

Fortunately, no. Everything seems to be back to normal. Except that my sim has gone from living free and easy with her roommates, to living in a trailer park with no job, family funds of $22 and two babies.

At least the glitch has given me an interesting situation to play with

OMG, now that's a story to tell! You can't even make up stories that good, lol! And I just LOVE that you put her in a trailer park too! Because really, where else could she belong? Hahahaha!

How weird about those babies though. Do they show up fatherless in the family tree too?

Maybe she had twins, but one of them wasn't ready to come out when the first one did...did she eat any cheesecake?

Funny and troublesome story though, I got to admit.

Actually, seeing genetics are decided at birth and not conception, I'm wondering if this baby will actually turn out as a clone of her mother, like what happens when you use InSim to impregnate a Sim by themselves. If there's no father listed in the family tree, it's possible, even likely, that the game didn't draw on the genetics from any other Sim.

But if it does turn out that way, it would mean that you could completely make up who the father is - whichever one would fit better for your story!

Laura, yes, the babies are fatherless everywhere - their family trees have a line to the mother, and to each other, but no dad(s) in sight.

The trailer park was the only place she could afford by the time she'd bought 2 cribs... lol... she has won herself a place as playable after all this, because it's been a while since I've had to play any sim in such a dire situation. With my hood well established, even an unmarried pregnant sim with no partner anymore at least has relatives she can fall back on usually. This is a whole new kind of challenge.

Mdp, twins makes sense! Don't remember if she had cheesecake the previous time I played her, but it could also have been natural twins, too. I've had twin babies age up to toddlers several hours apart in-game, so its possible something like that might have happened with the twin births... especially as this pregnancy was buggy from the start.

They're going to be twins from a story pov, anyway - there's no other way to explain such a short second pregnancy

Somuchsong, one of the babies might be a clone, but I don't think both, as they look quite different... the mother was a sim I downloaded, who as far as I know, was created in CAS or Bodyshop for the purpose of sharing, so no parents' genes to show up in her babies.

Of course, different fathers blows the twins theory. Really strange situation!

Part of me is tempted to age them up to see what they're going to look like, and part doesn't want to because the anticipation is fun

Ha, I can never wait to see what they'll look like. Probably because as slow as I play, I'll never make it to their adulthood, lol! So I usually check
